ILMEA Board of Directors Election Information

Candidates must be a current member of ILMEA to be considered. State President Elect candidates must have prior ILMEA Board service. Please visit the About Us section of the ILMEA website (www.ilmea.org/about) to read the Constitution and Bylaws document and the Position Job Descriptions. Board members are expected to act and conduct ILMEA business in accordance with these documents.

If you are interested in becoming involved in the mission and policy-making process of ILMEA and would like to be considered as a candidate by the Nominating Committee for one of these positions, please complete the online information form and submit no later than July 15 annually.

Announcements as to which candidates have been selected to run will be posted in the Fall Illinois Music Educator Journal.

Serving on the ILMEA Board of Directors allows you to give voice to the needs of music students and educators from around the state. From being involved in planning the Illinois Music Education Conference, to running district festivals, to building new programming, to envisioning and working towards the future of the organization, service on the Board of Directors is both important and rewarding.

Members of the ILMEA Board of Directors are elected by ILMEA members throughout the state (President and Division Presidents) or within the geographic area (District Presidents).

The following positions were on the ballot in Fall 2024; the elect terms will begin immediately upon the conclusion of the 2025 Illinois Music Education Conference, stepping into the full position at the conclusion of the 2026 Illinois Music Education Conference.

Elementary General Music Division President

Music Educator Development Division President

Four year term (1 year as Division President Elect, 3 years as Division President)

Professional Division Presidents are responsible for representing all persons and organizations dealing primarily with that division and its activities; organizing and appointing Divisional Councils made up of music teacher education leaders from across the state; attending and participating in ILMEA Board of Directors meetings and other committee meetings as required; assisting in planning the Illinois Music Education Conference through selection of professional development offerings and performances; attending the Illinois Music Education Conference and representing the Association to attendees; sharing general jurisdiction over and responsibility for, the functions of the Association.

Additionally, the MTE Division President is the primary representative for and liaison to the higher education community of music educators in Illinois, including programs for pre-service educators and coordinating research submissions and publication.

Four year term (1 year as Division President Elect, 3 years as Division President)

Performing Division Presidents are responsible for representing all persons and organizations dealing primarily with that division and its activities; planning for student orchestral ensembles at the State-level; attending and participating in ILMEA Board of Directors meetings and other committee meetings as required; assisting in planning the Illinois Music Education Conference through selection of professional development offerings and performances; attending the Illinois Music Education Conference and representing the Association to attendees; sharing general jurisdiction over and responsibility for, the functions of the Association.


District 5 President

District 6 President

Four year term (1 year as District President Elect, 3 years as District President)

District Presidents are responsible for organizing and appointing District-level leadership; organizing District-level auditions, festivals and other programs for students and educators as required; attending and participating in ILMEA Board of Directors meetings and other committee meetings as required; attending the Illinois Music Education Conference and representing the Association to attendees; sharing general jurisdiction over and responsibility for, the functions of the Association; communicating with District music educators and students on behalf of the Association.
